Hosts Elizabeth Whelan at the White House and calls the parents afterward.
President Joe Biden invited Elizabeth Whelan this past week, the sister of a U.S. citizen who has been detained in Russia for over five years. Former Marine Paul Whelan visited Moscow in 2018 to attend a friend’s wedding, where he was wrongly imprisoned for espionage. She commended ongoing efforts to free her brother but expressed her belief that the U.S. has not fully utilized all the tools they could to expedite his release.
The White House said that “immediately following the meeting, the President called the parents of Paul Whelan.” President Biden, the White House noted, “has been personally engaged in the effort to secure the release of Americans held hostages and wrongfully detained around the world.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and secretary of state as they seek the release of wrongfully detained American citizens from foreign nations.
- For the health and safety of Paul Whelan and others who are being imprisoned in adversarial countries.
